Commercial Heritage Project

Address: Shop 1, 507 Main Street, Mordialloc
Project Type: Heritage Works and Signage

Mordialloc Florist was looking to move to new premises within the same shopping strip, but the shop facade they wanted to move into was in need of serious upgrade.

The majority of the Main Street shopping strip is covered by a Heritage Overlay.  That meant that the facade works and business signage required for the florist needed a planning permit.  Fortunately as the building was a non-contributory heritage building the proposed facade works and signage met the criteria for VicSmart.  This is the fast track process that has been set up for some simple application types.  You can read more about it here.

The two applications were lodged separately to allow for signage to be displayed while they finalised the design and construction of the new front facade.  This was planned to minimise disruption to their customers and brand.  All up the process was complete within 2 months, allowing them to quickly relocate to the new premises.

The proposal is a positive contribution to the Main Street shopping strip, revitalising and moderising a neglected shopfront to maintain the vibrancy of this much loved shopping centre.
